Drvengrad

Serbia

Serbia, things to see....

Tara, Drvengrad
As for any other place, you can find a lot of info on the web, here I will give my view as always, and some "inside" info too. Tara and Zlatibor are very near; you should check out a very famous, younger people will tell you only among old people, folk song, "Zlatibore pitaj Taru" (Zlatibore ask Tara). The song is about the love of two young people, she is from Tara and he is from Zlatibor. Unfortunately, they split at the end of the song, and the same is true today for these two mountains: Tara is still a nature reserve, while Zlatibor, thankfully only the center of it, has become an urban disaster. If you are coming from Belgrade, you will climb Zlatibor after Užice City. After about 12,5 kilometers, or about 15–20 minutes, you will be close to Mačkat, a well-known village with more restaurants serving lamb than houses to live in..... Of course I am joking, but if you eat meat, you must stop here. You will pass Zlatibor and slowly move onto Tara. Tara is beautiful; there are pine trees everywhere, fantastic air, and breathtaking nature. Before Drvengrad (Wood City), I just wanted to tell you that there is an ex military hotel on Tara, Omorika. a great place to stay, excellent food, and, for me, very interesting because you can see the luxury of the past: ex Yugoslavia, old hotel, probably renovated now but with a nostalgic feel, a happy time for many people. The artificial Zaovinsko lake is also worth seeing, but it has recently been devastated by massive electricity production.Ok, now, Drvengrad. Emir Kusturica, a well-known film director, is responsible for this settlement; I'm not sure about the ownership structure, but I don't think it matters; Emir did an excellent job, and I admire him greatly.Drvengrad has a hotel, a cinema, a restaurant, and much more different content to explore and enjoy. Also, there is a film festival, a music festival, etc.Last but not least, the Tara and Drvengrad attraction, Šarganska osmica, is an old train that will take you through colorful surroundings. I wish you a fantastic time on Tara!

Deliblatska pescara
Wednesday, 14. July, a decision is made. Weekend tour, plan: Friday afternoon we start our journey, Saturday Vršac and everything about Vršac, Sunday Bela crkva (This can be translated, White church). Accommodation? Short search on the net, every time it is easier, we know what we want. Matejev Konak, Šušara village, https://www.facebook.com/Matejevkonak in “Deliblatska peščara”-Deliblato sands-Wikipedia translation. You will ofcourse read about Deliblatska peščara on the net, I will not write about it much. After about one hour and a half of easy ride from Belgrade we arrived. I am old school, I appreciate people with honor, courage, willingness to help, people with attitude and principles, who do not build their world on others' backs. When we entered the yard we really were amazed. Everything looks like in our dreams, like it was made with personal touch. And it was, Leonora told us that herr's husband reconstructed most of it by himself. The roof is made of reed and that was built by the people who know how to do it, and they waited for them for more than a year.. It shows a lot of imagination, hard working, brite ideas. Two very nice apartments, Matejev konak is a must! Saturday morning, there are kafa & rakija first than after excellent breakfast, warm bread directly from the oven, ham, egs, goat soft cheese, cucumber…… First we went to Orhodox women's Monastery Mesić https://www.eparhijabanatska.rs/manastiri/mesic/ . The church is most probably from from 11th century , frescos from 18., of course, the original ones were burned several times by Turks. Every time I enter the Orthodox monastery I am impressed how quiet and how neat the yard is. A lot of flowers, Hard work can be seen at every step. After Hill over Vršac with a medieval tower. We parked the car and after a short climb we arrived in front of the tower. Paragliders! Just in front of us! Great view from the hill, tower is reconstructed, interesting, to learn about the history of Vršac.Let's go further!Winery Drašković, Helvecija 1880 building, restaurant. Nice, for my taste is too big and too close to the road, I like more wineries in nature, but, very good Muscat Otonel, white wine, a little sweet. Then we went to the city center. Since it was Saturday afternoon most of the shops were closed, also it was late for Cathedral and Orthodox church, city museum. So, be in the Vršac earlier! We slept again in the beautiful Matejev konak, grst stay!Sunday morning, coffee and rakija, Bela crkava. Small place famous for its lakes which are in front of the city. We did not spend too much time there, lakes are nice, you can enjoy the sun, drinks, fast food, water sports…. There is much more to see in this region, for example many wineries, good fish restaurants, interesting nature, but I will leave it to you to choose! ...#matejevkonak #deliblatskapescara #vrsac #serbia #wheretogoinserbia #mesicmonastery #vrsackakula #wineryserbia
